What are the next steps for the project?

The council’s planning committee has backed proposals for the new leisure centre, and they are subject to referral to the Secretary of State.  The Secretary of State will have 21 days from confirmed receipt of the letter to make a decision whether to call the application for decision.

Once determined, work will start on site in January 2027 and the facility is expected to open in 2028.

Ahead of planning approval, preparatory work has been taking place to support the development.  This includes planting and soft landscaping to replace ecological features that will be lost during construction, timed to ensure new planting can be established successfully.
